Let me ask you something.

And be honest with yourself.

Do you think you are an empathetic person?

Let me ask you a few more question..

When someone is going through something. Do you have the ability to seek to understand, what that person is going through?

Do you even care to seek to understand what that person is going through?

Do you have to know that person personally, to care about what they are going through?

Or can it be a complete stranger/someone you absolutely don’t know?

If you answered yes, to all of these questions. I would personally consider you an empathetic person.

But if you answered no, to any of these, well ask yourself,

why?

And I’m not asking you to ask yourself why, to make you feel bad about yourself. But in order to understand your reasoning, I want you to turn to yourself. And ask yourself why did you say No, to one of these questions, or more than one of these questions.

In order to express pure empathy for other’s. One must have a strong sense of self-awareness.

And a strong sense of emotional intelligence.

Emotional Intelligence: is the ability to identify and manage one’s emotions, as well as the emotions of others.

For example: An emotionally intelligent individual is both highly conscious of his, her, or their own emotional status. An individual will also be conscious of their negative emotions, such as sadness, frustration and anger. And in return, they are also very in tune with the feelings of others.

Honestly, I think it would be hard to seek to understand, or process what others are going through.

If you barely try to seek to understand, or process what you are going through.

Or if you are currently too self-absorbed with your own life, and what you are going through. To empathize with others.

I honestly believe that nothing makes a person’s character shine more than the ability to be empathetic. This trait is so rare to me, and it’s upsetting, and truly saddens me.

We live in a world now, where social media is making people become very desentitized to the things that they see.

It’s almost as if majority of people don’t feel bad anymore. Or they don’t take the time to process what they see. Before they react, or make a comment.

It’s almost as if more people enjoy seeing the misery and suffering of others. Than they enjoy seeing the good.

Now, you have to ask yourself …

If you have a child, or you want children in the future.

Do you want your kids to grow up in a world that lacks empathy?

Do you want your children to grow up with a lack of empathetic morals?

And yes you can raise your children before the world raises them.

But look at how this world is becoming.

You are the change agent here. It takes one person making a change, and being more kind and empathetic to create a ripple effect.

So if you consider yourself an empathetic person, my question to you is:

What are you going to do this year to create a positive change, not only for yourself. But for the betterment of humanity?

Are you going to volunteer? Are you going to join an organization? Or are you going to use your creative abilities, and innovate something that will positively support humanity?

If you stated No, to any of the questions I previously asked. I want you to continue to ask yourself

“WHY”.

But I also want to encourage you to think about volunteering. Joining a organization. Or innovating something to support humanity as well.

So you might have a little bit more work to do, than someone who considers themselves to be empathetic.

But that doesn’t mean you won’t accomplish it.

Personally, I wish to live in a world that is more empathetic. I consider myself a very empathetic person. There are many times in my life, I have shed tears due to the suffering of others. Especially in the privacy of my own space. Because I’m very sensitive to the suffering of others. And the disgusting cruelty in this world. Especially in America.

I don’t have to be your friend. And I don’t even have to know you personally. To seek to understand, or to try to feel your pain.

I’m human.

And at the end of the day. Being human is what unites us all. It’s that shared experienced, that will forever unite us all.

You know what I believe.

In life, I believe that we were all put on this earth to create positive change.

But life is a game.

And yes we all can’t control the cards that we have been dealt

But we can control, how we choose to play the game.

Who we choose to be

And how we choose to be remembered.

Some of us create positive change, some of us create negative change.

And some of us sit around and create NO change.

So who are you going to be this year?

This is your life. So you decide.

You make the choice.

But remember whatever energy you put out in this world. Whether good or bad.

It will always come right back to you.

I want to end this post, by sharing with you all an episode from Oprah Winfrey’s SuperSoul Podcast.  I listened to this episode on New Year’s Eve, and I really enjoyed it. It was very insightful, and I think a lot of people would benefit from listening to it as well!

I hope I succeeded in adding some value into your day today, because that is always my mission!
