In may, I was at a point where I was completely tired. I was tired of experiencing uncontrollable feelings of anxiety. I was tired of being so hard on myself. I was tired of being a perfectionist. And I was absolutely tired of striving to be patient with my journey.

A lot had gone on in April. That was grooming me for what was ahead. But at the same time, I felt as though everything was slowly setting me back. One day in April, I decided to go to my local Target to get materials to start taking pictures, to sell on Poshmark, and online selling app for resale fashion.

As I was strolling through the store. I casually turned down an aisle, that had books and journals.  When my eye saw resting on the racks. A journal titled,

Daily Gratitude Journal.

I picked the journal up, and began flipping through the pages. Shaking my head as I agreed, with the words that werewritten. The words gave me faith. And also influenced my mind to think about the concept of Gratitude. And start to think how I can express my Gratitude for the blessing in my life more.

Five minutes in the aisle, turned into 45. As I picked up different journals and book. Flipping more and more pages. As my mind searched for stimulating activities and wisdom. On the lower shelf, sat a red book with a huge number 5 in front of it titled,

Where will you be in 5 years?

I picked up the book, and once again began shuffling through its pages. But slower, as I read page, by page. This book in particular presented thought provoking questions. Questions that encouraged the reader to focus on who they are, while focusing on where they are trying to go. I believe wholeheartedly in the idea, that one cannot completely thrive professionally, if they don’t insist on growing personally.

The two are hand in hard, with personal growth, being the essential reason why all of us humans are on this earth. To learn more about who we are, and who we are becoming

I didn’t find the materials I was looking for, but I ended up walking out of the store with the book. The Universe certainly works in mysterious ways, and I definitely believe I was sent to the store simply for that book.

I spent the rest of April, until early May finishing up the book, and it’s mind-provoking activities. This book, my daily quotes, and my innate optimism, urged me to keep my faith alive. But I knew I needed more.

I needed something where I would not only be forced to see it everyday. But that it would be one of the first things I would see whenever I awaken. I needed something personal, that was specifically for me, and by me.

The idea of writing my own positive affirmations came to my mind, affirmations of the self, of my dreams, of my goals, my healing, my growth, and my journey.

I began writing ones for myself. And decorating my walls, with the words I had dressed the papers with.

Below are a few affirmations and messages that I wrote for myself. They have been on my wall for a while, so some of of them have gotten a little messed up with time, but they are all raw photos from my Iphone.

Simply seeing these thoughts everyday, keeps me focused, reassured, as they serve as daily reminders of why I’m here, and like everyone reading this right now, have a purpose here on this earth. Everyone.

Erykah Badu once said, “Write it down on real paper, with a real pencil, and watch shit get real”

So readers, I’m not forcing you all to do this, but I do want to strongly encourage you all to give it a try. What harm can it do? Ask yourself that question, what harm can it do, if all you are trying to do, is work on you?

First start by writing down 10 positive affirmations for yourself, and stick them somewhere you will see. Whether it’s around your wall, your mirror, at your desk at work, whatever it is. Write down things you know you need to see and hear everyday. Positive remarks about your present self, your future self; and your journey. Write down whatever will motivate you, write down the thing you need to stop doing, learn how to do; write down anything that will help push you forward, especially during those unmotivated times. Write down whatever YOU feel like YOU need to see. This activity is all about YOU. BE honest with yourself, and take your time.
